Atty. Georgi Georgiev, Managing Partner of G&P Law

Over the past few months, G&P Law has received several international recognitions and has increasingly appeared in the selections of leading legal rankings. The latest distinction comes with the firm’s inclusion on the shortlist for National Law Firm of the Year (Bulgaria) at the IFLR Europe Awards 2026 – a selection featuring only three law firms from the country. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in June in London.

We spoke with Attorney Georgi Georgiev – one of the founders of G&P Law – about the factors behind this development, the key matters, and the future direction of the firm.

Within just a few months, G&P Law received a number of international recognitions – from Chambers and Partners, IFLR1000, and others. What do you attribute this momentum to, and what stands behind it?

– What appears from the outside as “momentum” is actually the result of consistent work over the past several years. Our rankings in Chambers and Partners – both in the global guide and for Bulgaria – as well as our presence in IFLR1000 and our inclusion in The Legal 500, are a natural consequence of the way we work, rather than a targeted visibility campaign.

At the core is the team. To a large extent, these recognitions are the result of professional execution in every matter – whether it involves a complex corporate structure, a transaction, or dispute representation. Over time, this builds trust, which grows with every successfully completed assignment.

Another important factor is the methodology of these rankings themselves. They rely significantly on client feedback – real reviews, real recommendations. In that sense, our presence there is organic. It is not about one-time success, but about a sustainable level of service that clients recognize and appreciate.

So if I had to summarize, these recognitions are built on consistency, a strong team, and trust developed over time.

G&P Law is still a relatively small and young firm compared to many others in these rankings. How do you compete with established market names?

    – Indeed, compared to some long-established firms, we are a smaller and younger team. But that is not necessarily a disadvantage – in many cases, it is exactly the opposite.

Our advantage lies in focus and in the way we approach every matter. We work on a more limited number of projects, but with a high level of commitment and attention to detail. This allows us to go deeper, understand the client’s business, and provide solutions that are not only legally sound but also practically effective.

Flexibility is also a key factor. A smaller team means faster decision-making, shorter internal processes, and more direct communication with the client. Clients feel this clearly, especially in dynamic transactions or matters with short deadlines.

And last but not least – again, it comes down to feedback. Ultimately, it is the clients who evaluate our work. When you consistently receive strong recommendations and trust for more complex and responsible matters, that naturally places you in a competitive position, regardless of the size or history of the firm.

Competition is therefore not so much a matter of scale, but of quality, attitude, and the ability to deliver value in every specific case.

To what extent does client feedback influence the rankings, and how do you work to earn it?

      – Client feedback is a key factor in rankings – in many cases, even more important than the portfolio of matters itself. Organizations such as Chambers and Partners and IFLR1000 rely precisely on direct client interviews and recommendations. In that sense, our entry into Chambers Global was largely the result of strong and consistent client appreciation built through real work on often complex and demanding matters.

Honesty is at the core of this approach. First, we provide a realistic assessment of the situation, even when it does not match the client’s expectations. Second, we recommend only those actions and services that have genuine potential to achieve a favorable outcome, rather than those that would simply increase the volume of work.

That is what builds trust. Clients can sense when you are working in their best interest rather than formally going through the motions. And trust accumulated over time becomes the strongest recommendation – both in daily practice and in international rankings.

What were the key or most interesting matters that, in your view, contributed to these recognitions?

        – Among the recognized projects was our advisory work for Scandia Invest regarding the incorporation of a company and the subsequent joint acquisition of a winery valued at EUR 500,000.

We also helped our long-term client Serpact and its founder develop and finance a new business model in the tech sector through a new company, Trakian, which has already secured a second round of investor financing that we are also advising on.

A major challenge requiring knowledge across multiple sectors was the House Cash Flows project, for which we created a legal framework for monetizing and tokenizing a tourism business in Thailand. In this matter, we also utilized Bulgaria’s newly introduced legal entity form – the variable capital company.

The BuddyGuard project won us over with the founders’ mission and the complex but necessary crowdfunding structure.

Our client BlockNote entrusted us to represent them before the Financial Supervision Commission regarding a MiCA license, thereby contributing to the development of the crypto market in Bulgaria.

There are many projects across diverse sectors, which keep our work interesting, but also require us to stay alert to new regulations.

What does the nomination for National Law Firm of the Year at the IFLR Europe Awards 2026 mean to you?

          – The nomination for National Law Firm of the Year at the IFLR Europe Awards 2026 is, above all, recognition of the work of the entire team. It is a sign that our efforts in corporate law and higher-complexity transactions are being noticed and appreciated internationally.

At the same time, we see it as confirmation that we are on the right path. For us, it is not simply an award, but an indicator that our approach – focus on quality, practical solutions, and understanding the client’s business – works and creates real value.

Of course, such a nomination also carries responsibility. It raises expectations – both externally and within the team itself. That is why we see it not as a final goal, but as motivation to maintain and build on the level we have achieved so far.

At the beginning of the year, you announced a new partner, Petya Norova – as well as expansion with offices in Plovdiv and Varna. How do these steps fit into the long-term strategy of the firm?

            – These steps are a natural continuation of our development, not growth for growth’s sake. The addition of Petya Norova as partner reflects exactly that – strengthening the firm with a proven professional who shares our approach to work and the standards we maintain for clients. It is important for us that growth is sustainable and happens with people we fully trust and who share our vision.

The expansion with offices in Plovdiv and Varna is a logical move driven by client needs. We increasingly work on projects outside Sofia, including transactions and matters with a regional element, and local presence allows us to be more effective and closer to business.

In the long term, this fits our strategy of controlled growth – building a strong team and presence where we can add value, without compromising quality.

What are the next priorities for G&P Law – in terms of team development, practice areas, or international positioning?

              – Our main priority remains the team. We continue to invest in people – both by attracting new colleagues and by deepening expertise within already established practice areas. We believe sustainable growth comes through a strong and well-structured team.

At the same time, we will continue to develop our key practices – corporate law, transactions, regulatory matters, and dispute resolution – with a focus on more complex and strategic mandates. This is the segment where we can create the greatest value and stand out.

In terms of international positioning, we will continue to work actively with foreign clients and partners, including through networks such as Baker Tilly International and BNI – Business Network International. Our goal is not simply presence, but the building of long-term relationships and participation in cross-border projects where we can combine local expertise with an international standard of work through trusted partners.
