Who are the people behind the G&P Law team? What does their work involve, and what inspires them? What do they enjoy doing in their free time? We’re sharing the answers in a series of interviews as part of the #G&PLawTeam series. Our next feature is Dimitar Petrov – one of the two founding attorneys behind Georgiev and Petrov Law Firm, established in 2018 and known today under the G&P Law brand. Dimitar brings extensive experience in the areas of contract, property, and tort law, as well as in intellectual property protection – including trademarks and copyright – among other legal fields. When he’s not at the office, you’ll often find him in the mountains – running, cycling, or snowboarding. In this interview, Dimitar shares more about himself, his choice of profession, where he finds inspiration, the cases that challenge him, how he spends his free time, and his favorite podcast.

– What is your role at G&P Law?
I coordinate processes, join team meetings, and come up with new work to do 🙂
– What inspires you most in your work?
The feeling that sometimes our work has an immediate impact on the world around us – something you can see and touch. Helping people succeed in their business ventures is also incredibly rewarding.
– What initially attracted you to G&P Law and what keeps you here?
The fact that part of my name stands behind the “P” in G&P Law.
– When and how did you realize this would be your profession?
I think I was still in school when I knew I wanted to be a lawyer. There weren’t many doubts about that choice after that.
– What has disappointed you and what has surprised you compared to your expectations?
I’m often disappointed by the formalism of law enforcement and judicial authorities. Life tends to move faster than the legislature. Many of the cases we face daily are complex and require a holistic approach. Unfortunately, in such instances, legal institutions often lack the flexibility in their interpretation of the law, leading to “Catch-22”-type situations.
What has charmed me is the opportunity to regularly meet people with diverse ideas – that happens almost every week.
– What’s the best professional advice you’ve ever received?
“Your first clients are your friends.” – For a young lawyer starting out, that was a crucial piece of advice.
– What do you think are the most important qualities in this profession?
The ability to convince a client they can trust you.
– Do you have a favorite case?
I have a few, but one that stands out is the fight to register the trademark “Cards Against Bulgariness”.
– What do you consider your biggest achievement?
That we’ve had our own practice for seven years now.
– What are your three favorite things about your job?
The variety, meeting different people, and the feeling of being in a courtroom.
– How would you explain your job to your grandmother?
Easy – I fight for people’s rights.
– How do you imagine your profession 10 years from now?
Much more optimized in terms of human involvement. AI tools will be part of a lawyer’s daily life in ten years. That’s the next step. If documents used to be handwritten, then typed, and later created on computers – now it’s time for a new leap forward.
– What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outdoor sports and spending time in the mountains – running, cycling, skiing, and so on.
– What have you been listening to most lately?
Definitely the “Ratio” podcast – it’s one of my recent favorites.
